Authentic learning is an approach to education that focuses on real-world application and problem-solving. As an educator, you know that one of the keys to student success is creating engaging and authentic learning experiences. Technology can be a great way to create these experiences, but it’s important to use it in the right way. Here are some tips for creating authentic learning experiences using technology in the classroom.

Make sure the technology you’re using is appropriate for the task at hand. There’s no point in using a complicated piece of software when a simple tool will do the job just as well. Keep it simple and focused on what you want your students to achieve. For example, if you want your students to take notes about a particular topic, they can use what they have at hand such as Google Keep or Apple Notes.

Give your students a real world problem to investigate or an activity that’s relevant to the time. Technology allows students to conduct extensive research right from the classroom using their Chromebook, iPad, or personal phone. For example, during election periods, have students create campaign materials or pro/con materials about certain ballot initiatives.

Use technology to create opportunities for students to apply what they’re learning. For example, if you’re teaching a history lesson, have students use a video editing program to create a documentary or interactive presentation about an event they’re studying. This will help them better understand the material and see its relevance to their own lives.

Allow students to share their work with a wider audience. When students know their work will be seen by people outside of the classroom, they’re more likely to take pride in it and put forth their best effort. Posting student work on a class blog, website, or Twitter account is a great way to do this.

Technology can be a great asset in the classroom if used correctly. By following these tips, you can ensure that your students are getting the most out of their learning experiences and that they’re able to apply what they’re learning in a meaningful way.
